WEEKLY DEVOTION WITH RMA | CONCENTRATE | IN SEASON AND OUT OF SEASON
A very warm welcome to you who is about to take a read of this week's devotion...
I give thanks, glory and honor to
God for the gift of a new day! We could have perished! But we are here!
If I may ask: What should
everything that has breath do? The answer is: Let everything that has breath
praise the Lord, God Almighty (Psalm 150:6).
Then there is this common phrase
that; “God is good, all the time and all the time, God is good and that is His
nature, wow!” As we get done with the phrase, we feel we must arise and give
God a standing ovation. Some of us don’t do it just because the leader has
asked us to do so or because everyone else has stood up but because deep inside
of us, we feel it and can verify without a doubt that indeed, God is good at
all times.
My name is Robert Mugisa Abwooli
and I write to you from the land of the living. The Lord has favored me beyond
all measure and I hereby proclaim that I am alive today not by my own strength;
not by my own power or might; not by my own wisdom but by the Spirit and grace
of God. I do what I do, not by power and not by might but by God’s Spirit (Zechariah
4:6).
This is the day that God has
made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Yesterday is gone, no matter how it
went; it is gone! Today is here; no matter how it has come through, it is here!
What is it that weighed you up or down yesterday? All you can do is reflect
upon it but you will not change anything. You have the opportunity today to
make right yesterday’s wrongs and to strengthen yesterday’s strongpoints or
areas.
Looking around and hearing from
the many voices within and outside of us, there is so much that is happening
both positive and negative. Some of what is happening is total news to us but
some information is what we have always known and lived with. For instance, you
will notice that a number of people, including my own inner family members have
been sick or ill. I have received information of some people within and outside
my circle who have since departed from this world and returned to their maker. We
have received news of violence or threats of violence; attacks on people’s
lives and gruesome murders or crimes against humanity; hunger; poverty; misery
and so on and so forth. The question remains: When shall all this come to an
end? The answer is that no one knows except the one who sets the times and the
seasons.
While there is pain and suffering
in some parts of our lives, we cannot deny the fact that there are some points
and places where life is really moving on well. There are people among us who
are celebrating the birth of a child; increase in wealth; academic success;
acquisition of additional property; celebration of good relationships;
promotions; new life journeys and so on and so forth. The question is: Is this
sustainable? And the answer is that yes, it is sustainable through the one who
sets the seasons and the times.
I live in Uganda and I can see and
feel the wave of a new season. The rains are falling from the skies and the
farmer is grateful for the waters that soften the ground so that crops can
germinate, grow and yield or bear much more fruit. It is about this time of the
year that we must reflect on what truly matters. We must get up and place seeds into
the ground so that in due season, we can reap from what we sowed. Otherwise,
the season and times will keep on moving. If we do nothing about these two, we
will be where we were yesterday; we will be where we are today and we will be
where we will be tomorrow. Everyone wants a good life but we must acknowledge
that as much as we could have faith that God is able to grant us this life by
faith, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Better
still, faith without actions is dead (James 2:17-23).
My call for this week stands at
the level that we should all look at one another with respect well knowing that
each of us was created equal in dignity and rights. As a Human Rights Lawyer
and Advocate, I can assure you that some people only seem to be, and think that
they are more equal than others but I have constantly proved that such persons
are entangled in their own forest. At the end of it all, we return to a place
where there are no distinctions or grades; a place where each person must be
grateful that they lived their life, however short or long, to the glory and
honor of the one who created them.
As much as possible, let those
with a little more privilege think about and support those with less or those
without any privilege. It was not by power or might that we got to where we
are today. It was by the grace and mercy of God. Let us then show our gratefulness to
the one who gives to us by sharing some of our gifts with the needy amongst us.
This is one of the ways we will sow seed(s) on fertile ground and in due
season, we will reap a good harvest.
I pray for peace to reign. I pray for good health. I pray for all leadership. I pray for you. I pray for this nation. I pray for the nations of the world. I pray for all ministry. I pray for every parent. I pray for every child. Let love lead the way. I pray for myself. I pray for courage; courage to stand; courage to win at all times and in all situations.
Until we hear from each other again ... I love you, I pray for you. Amen.
