WEEKLY DEVOTION WITH MUGISA ABWOOLI

FOCUSING ON AND CRAVING FOR GOD’S WILL

JAMES 4:13-17

“Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s Will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

Because of who God is, we give him glory, praise and we lift our voices to worship Him. He is Jehovah Jireh our provider; Jehovah Nisi as He reigns in victory; Jehovah Shalom our peace.

Welcome to this new week where we expect so much action as compared to words. Listen to the conversations around you and you will notice that not many of them add value to you as an individual. What we need to focus on is what helps us to advance in life in one way or another.

Take some time off to pray for yourself and the people in your life. It may not matter at this point that those people really matter to you but please pray for them. Pray for people whom you consider as friends. Mathew 5:44 invites us as well to pray for those we consider to be our enemies. After all, what does it benefit you to love only those that love you? Loving your enemies doesn’t mean that you expose yourself to them but that you pray for them to live and not die; that they will see you advancing and ask themselves why they ever chose the path of treating you with so much contempt and ridicule.

It is a new week that calls for new and positive vibe(s) only. I thank Gid for people who celebrated life events over the past week(s) including birthday, introduction, graduation, receiving babies and additions to the family; home-coming; promotion; among others.

I pray for people who lost loved ones or valuable property that Gods shall comfort and strengthen you. This applies too, to people who are nursing illnesses or taking care of sick one(s) at home or in/at medical centers. May God give you courage to endure the seemingly hard times and may God provide all the resources that you and your people need to go through the times.

I pray for my leaders right from top (President) to bottom (myself) that God shall grant them/us wisdom and understanding to lead according to His will and guidance rather than in our way(s) and thoughts.

I pray for parents as we take of plan to take our children back to school. I pray for our children and cover them with the blessings of God Almighty. I pray that they shall be divinely protected from the hand of the evil one. Our children will live and not die; they shall tell of God’s goodness in this land of the prosperous.

I pray for all human rights defenders including journalists and security officers that as they undertake risky ventures and assignments, God’s hand of protection shall be upon them.

This is the day and week that God has made; let each us rejoice and be glad in it. Yesterday is gone with all its joys and pains. This day is here with all its goodness. We choose to focus on the positives and disassociate ourselves from stressing and painful situations. In as much as weeping may be evident, it shall not last for long. Our past and present suffering cannot compare to the joy we are about to experience.

I declare and proclaim that we are blessed and honored by God. We are moving forward through it all.

Best wishes,

MUGISA ABWOOLI REFLECTION 4/2024
