WEEKLY DEVOTION WITH ROBERT MUGISA ABWOOLI | MAY 15-21, 2023

Theme/Topic: PUT YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER

Scripture: 2 Kings 20:1-3

In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: PUT YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER, because you are going to die; you will not recover. Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, “Remember, O Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

Dear Friend (Wife, Child, Parent, Housemate, Workmate, Church/Ministry-mate, Person here-living),

Praise God and I will say it again, praise God! Amen!

Good morning and welcome to this new day and week.

I thank God for you and your loved ones as I continue to be very grateful for this far we have come in our journey of life. We are stronger and better together. For those who follow me on my social media platforms, thank you. I believe it's there that you keep touching base with me in one way or the other to the level that though we may not/never meet physically, at least, you are able to tell what I am up to. Once in a while, I receive feedback from those who share it with me. Mwebale muno, neyanziza nyo.

I celebrate with those who had victory coming their way over the past week and pray that God shall continue to give you more and more success in all that you do. Thanks be to God if you had your introduction, wedding, birthday, anniversary, baby shower, gift of child (ren), graduation, among others.

I pray for and with those who went through or are still going through challenging times or situations including those who lost their loved ones in the most recent past. I remember the families of people who were murdered; the families of those who have lost people to different diseases and ailments. I also remember the family of our very own brother and mentor, Dr. Simon Peter MUKHAMA who was influential in his leadership of Bible Society of Uganda. May God grant him and others eternal rest. Amen (let it be so). Papa Simon's death helps us to reflect that God has given us life and a great opportunity to touch people's life in a way that leaves them better and happier.

A quick scan through the environment in which we live reveals that we have more prayers to make up to God as individuals, families, communities and nation(s). Uganda has particularly experienced a wave of killings through use of guns and of course, it could be a sign that either the people who are doing this are disgruntled or there is a spirit of death hovering over the country which we can only pray to God to restore peace and security. On our own, we can do nothing. As long as we read about or watch it/them in the news, we are left with no option but to pray that there will be an end to the anxiety caused by the prevailing situation.

As we start this week, I have some insights to share:

  1. Get back to your first love for God and for those around you. Remember that place where you first met your Creator. If it wasn't at birth then it was somewhere along life's path. Get back there and reflect. Restart your life.
  2. Please put your house in order. House may mean the physical place where you live or it could mean your body and life. In the physical, leave your bed well laid and your room tidy. In the spiritual and emotional sense, revisit your inner self to see that you are at peace with yourself and with those around you, beginning with those in your house.
  3. No one will care for you the same way you care for yourself. Many people need you when you are alive and well; not when you are miserable, weak or unable to help yourself. Infact, many people like it when you can help yourself and them. Take time off to reflect on your life and find strength and courage to be the best that you can be.
  4. Whatever happened has happened. Whatever is to happen is going to happen. The best thing is to commit your life to your Creator and pray that in all things, everything shall work out for your good and the good of those in your community/surrounding.

I love you, I pray for you.

Robert Mugisa Abwooli.

  1. I am so so encouraged by your sharing the word of God everytime I do. May the Lord continually use you for his glory. Is it okay if I can ask questions or it has to be on a one to one communication? Iam Olive
