JANUARY 1, 2022 | THE OLD HAS GONE; THE NEW HAS COME

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
2 Corinthians 5:17

2022 is here! Welcome, Friends and Family! I love you so much.

My name is Robert Mugisa Abwooli. I am so grateful to God for the gift of life and the New Year 2022. Wow! What a privilege to be here, sharing a life with you. My Mother regularly tells me for a fact that “obulamu kyekikulu” literally interpreted as “life is the most important thing.” I believe the phrase because as long as we live, we can face anything and everything as it unfolds.

Twelve months or three hundred sixty-five days is not a simple journey to walk. It reminds me of the song, one day at a time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBnZ8bmEOTM. I think that’s why many of us wait for the midnight hour on December 31 of each year as it is a time to cross over to another season or cycle; to start again. We may never have found a perfect theme for than “the old is gone and the new has come” that fits squarely into this message as we begin our walk into 2022.

2021 had its good, moderate and bad sides. A number of people say that the year passed, just like that and that the biggest challenge was the prevalence of COVID-19 pandemic and its attendant effects. I agree. Of course, different people faced other challenges but we also need to recount the blessings, opportunities and achievements that came through in the year that has just passed. This will help us to plan and focus well on what is ahead of us. There are people who married or got married; had blessings of children; completed and moved into their houses; bought new cars; completed their studies and; those who got promoted or moved on to new job placements or better still, started their own businesses which have greatly picked up. We thank God. Giving thanks to God is a virtue that opens doors for more blessings and brings total healing and deliverance. Please read Luke 17:11-19.

"Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy[b] met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him - and he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

The message is simple. Let’s always appreciate God for the past that and pray for a new start. It is good to remember where we have come from and what we went through but we shouldn’t over dwell on it as it may blur the image in the mirror and prevent us from seeing the clear picture. If there are issues that affected us so bad, let’s take our minds away from them and if there were good things along the way, let’s focus on how best to improve them for better. Let’s accept the losses that befell us and work towards restoration of all that the thief or locust took away.

Joel 2:25:

“I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten, the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm - my great army that I sent among you."

Remember, life is the most important thing.

As a passionate human rights defender and advocate, allow me conclude by calling upon each of us to join the campaign of human rights promotion, protection and realization with knowledge that human rights are natural entitlements that accrue or belong to all of us by reason of being human. Let’s work towards true love for one another and collaborate with key actors to see that we create a favorable environment for all to live in harmony. Nothing beats peaceful co-existence. Let’s work towards doing unto others what we wish them to do unto us.

Three things remain as faith, hope and love but the greatest of them all is love.

Wishing you and loved ones a peaceful and prosperous 2022.
