God Our Fortress and Ever Present Help - Sunday 9.8.2020 | Robert Mugisa Abwooli
Topic: GOD OUR FORTRESS AND EVER PRESENT HELP
Praise God! Praise Jesus! Halleluyah!
I thank God for the gift of life, a new day, new month of August which we are just 9 days into today. God has been very gracious to us as we consider the many days he has carried us through since we were born. I request you to stop whatever you are doing, close your eyes, breathe in… out… think about the times that God has taken you through and give Him a glorious hand clap!
My name is Robert Mugisa Abwooli. I am a male adult Ugandan of sound mind, married and grateful to God for the gift of salvation that he gave me from birth, but I publicly accepted him as Lord and Saviour at the age of thirteen. Since then, I have never regretted. So much has happened that reveals that Christ has walked this journey with me.
Let me also take this opportunity to thank God for Heart of Worship Choir and Prayer Connect Ministries for keeping us connected, indeed in the service of the Lord. I pay allegiance to this ministry because in one way of another, it shaped me into the man I have become today. Great thanks to Reverend Paddy Irumba Akiiki and his family for the great ministry that God has place on his heart for the flock. I long to come back to Hoima and pray and minister at All Saints, Hoima Town Church.
Please allow me apologise for not being so active on the Whatsapp page/forum but I keep following the discussion and ministry. May God continue to bless you richly, amen.
Today, God is leading us to talk about Him as OUR FORTRESS AND EVER PRESENT HELP IN TIME OF NEED
We read from Psalm 46
1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. 4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. 5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. 6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. 7 The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. 8 Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. 10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” 11 The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Okay…
Let me begin with these questions:
1. Where do you always run for safety when trouble comes your way?
2. How many people have run to you when they needed help? How many people have you run to when you needed help?
3. What comes to your mind when a friend, parent, relative or stranger tells you they need some help? Where do you send people who need help and you can’t help them?
For Example, when someone says they need One Thousand Shillings (1,000), it is easy to say, let me send it or here it is! When they say they need Ten Thousand Shillings (10,000), it is easy to tell them, wait a moment, I will get it for you or here it is! When they say they need you to help drive them to town, you may say fine or apologise where you not able to help.
Human nature is such that many times, when people ask us to help them for the first time, it is very simple to give them what they want. However, when the requests become regular, there is a tendency to think twice or even get tired of helping people…
But the good news is that our God is our ever present help in time of need.
Do you have a need? What is that need?
- Security?
- Safety from danger?
- Safety and protection from enemies?
- Growth in talent?
- Provision of daily needs?
- Healing when you are sick?
- Money and financial breakthrough?
- Promotion at work place?
- Business development?
Be encouraged! The Bible tells us in Numbers 23:19 that God is not a man that He should lie, He is not a son of man that He should change His mind!
He tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 that He has good plans for us, plans to prosper us; to give us a future and a hope!
He tells us in Jeremiah 33:3 that we should call unto Him and He will answer and show us great and mighty things that we do not know!
In the text that we read in Psalm 46, specifically verse 11, the Bible tells us that The Lord Almighty is with us, the God of Jacob is our fortress.
I pray that we will continue to trust and depend on God alone for our security, safety and all that we shall need for life. We are constantly reminded in Proverbs 18:10 that the name of the Lord is a strong tower where the righteous ones run/reach to and they are safe! May we make this our song, amen.
